Giorgio Viezzoli has been interested in Optical Art or Dynamic Art, an artistic movement that was born in the late 1950s in Europe and the USA. The consecration of this art form takes place in 1965, when the Museum of Modern Art of New York organizes the exhibition The Responsive Eyes, in which the works of the greatest representatives of the movement find their place.
Optical Art is based on the study of visual perception and experiments related to it. Aesthetics "Optical" is rooted in the interest for the representation of movement and in the abstract character of much art of the '900. All the works of Giorgio Viezzoli today are generally made with paper material, in various colors, metallized and not, in various thicknesses on which he intervenes by making cuts, folds and other properly studied operations, to obtain effects sometimes hypnotic but also definitely eye-catching and if possible of movement as well as modules, textures and various decorations.

The constant must always be the same: the three-dimensionality and the optical effect that intrigues and captures the eye by attracting attention. The masters of this current tried to combine scientific research and formal harmony, to achieve this goal they were concerned with the manipulation of elementary geometric figures and the effects that can be achieved by matching different shapes and colors or crossing lines and textures.

Also Giorgio Viezzoli follows this path while always looking for the originality and astonishment effect that must never be missing. In doing so, the works convey formal rigour but with the desire to entertain, without ever forgetting effect, creating the impression of movement and the illusion of three-dimensionality. The figure of the spectator thus becomes central, moving in front of the works, and can give rise to a series of ever new readings and interpretations.
